If you are planning on cooking at Casa Carrizo we recommend shopping at the large supermarket, MEGA Soriana in Zihuatanejo which you can easily incorporate on your drive in from the airport as it's just off the highway.  It has a wide selection of all the essentials Plus a good selection of non-general groceries, such as ‘free from’ foods and hard-to-find condiments and spices. NB Zihuatanejo is plastic-bag free so bring your own or expect to pay.

 

At the other end of the scale and to experience life like a local - the Mercado Municipal in the Centro is fantastic!  It sells a huge variety of things, including fresh fruit, vegetables, spices, and meat. There are also great restaurants located at the mercado, too.  Get there early before it gets too hot!

 

Los Llanos, our local village 10 mins away, has a few smaller stores where you can also purchase basic groceries. Super Paty’s on the left as you come through Los Llanos on your way to Saladita and Lalo's on the central square by the basketball court.   Both these shops have ATMs should you require cash. 

 

Nearer to home - there is a recently opened cafe / restaurant and shop in Playa Saladita itself, La Hacienda which is just three minutes drive away from Casa Carrizo!  It also comes complete with a huge selection of wines!

You can also of course buy freshly-caught dorado (mahi mahi), sail fish and oysters directly from the fishermen as they come in on Playa Saladita.

There is also a fruit and veg market every Sunday at Los Llanos’ basketball court and at nearby village Lagunillas on a Thursday (which also sells fresh fish).

TORTILLAS - the Mexican staple !  We recommend getting your tortillas fresh daily in Los Llanos. There is a little shop on the right hand side just as you come into town off the highway that sells great fresh tortillas. It’s best to buy them earlier in the day.

 

Please note that we do provide basic condiments (olive oil, salt, pepper and spices) at Casa Carrizo.

RECYCLING

Glass beer bottles, that are not twist tops, are returnable at most local stores in Los Llanos. Take your empties back when buying more for a discount.  Plastic bottles can be put into the container just outside Casa Carrizo at the beach-side bottom corner.  We are currently working with a local initiative for food waste collection . . . will update as we get more info.
